Our 5-month trip from March to July, 2019, was a southwest swing to the eastern side of California, north along the Sierras, time with our California family, and then back home. Hope you enjoy this trip with us!
going west
We started in Pensacola and followed the gulf coast to Brownsville, Texas, the very tip of the gulf. Then we followed the Rio Grande to El Paso, scooted up to Las Vegas for a granddaughter’s soccer tournament before heading to Death Valley. Ready to cool off then, we drove to US-395 at Lone Pine and the Alabama Hills (where many of the westerns from our youth were filmed) and went north along the Sierra Mountains toward Truckee, California, where our youngest son, Matt, and his family live.
going east
After 5 weeks with our Truckee family, we got back on the road, starting out by driving through the middle of Nevada on Hwy. 50, the loneliest road in the nation (what a great marketing description). Our last stop in Nevada was at Great Basin Natl. Park before we started our 4 Corners stops in Utah and Colorado. A blitz through the Panhandle had us driving toward Georgia. We’ll be home for a month or so before starting out again.
