After having lunch at the cafe at Taliesin East, we drove to House on the Rock for the afternoon. We took so many pictures, but they don’t come close to showing what’s there. Basically, a man built this house on top of a tall rock and people wanted to see it so he started charging them.
Then he started collecting items and building buildings to show his collections and store what didn’t fit in his buildings. He had armor, dollhouses, model ships of all sizes and eras, pipe organs, old guns and rifles, old dolls, carousels, heavy machinery, a street from the 1800s, a full-scale whale, orchestras where instruments played themselves, scrimshaw in all kinds of shapes, and so much more. If he had one of anything, he had dozens. We were overwhelmed.
Here are a few pictures.
If you like this post, be sure to put this place on your bucket list. Pictures just don’t do it justice.
