Our governor was the first to start opening up the state with hair salons, barber shops, tattoo shops, etc. May seem strange, but these places are so regulated already health-wise, that opening up with “social distancing” wasn’t such a big challenge for those folks who have been in business for a long time. We just have to have courage to go out. Our first outing like this was to get our hair cut.
With the stimulus money, we started using take-out more to support our favorite restaurants. At Cracker Barrel, we saw this “end of an era.”
One night I wanted to get out of the house for a few minutes, so we rounded up our household members and drove over to our local Jason’s Deli for take-out. They are actually allowing dine-in so have the dining room set up for “social distancing.” The great salad bar was empty, but the ice cream machine seemed to be working.
quick trip to Florida
At the end of our last trip to see our Florida family in February, we ended up with a bent axle on the RV when we were just outside of Lake City, Florida, close to the Georgia state line. We had to leave our “home” at Camping World to get it fixed after the warranty provided them with a new axle. Since our Governor started to open up the state a little, we decided we could take a quick trip south to pick up the RV.
We got to Camping World in the afternoon. See the puffy clouds? A storm had blown through that morning with gusts at almost hurricane force (remember this information).
We decided to spend the night at Lake City Campground where we’ve stayed a number of times so I could clean inside and Barney would update some of the trailer systems before driving home.
Remember when I said to remember the storm that went through Florida the morning before we got to Camping World? Well, at the campground that night when we lowered our Murphy bed to get ready for bed, we found that the head of the bed was soaked—the sheets, pillows, mattress, and mattress cover. All we could figure out was that our RV had a small leak on the roof that we couldn’t see, and that the wind from the storm got the water in through the minuscule leak to soak the top of our bed.
We turned the mattress around so the wet part was at our feet and covered this dampness with towels. Luckily we had brought an extra set of sheets with us and blankets were in a storage cabinet. When we got home, we washed everything and were relieved that the storm was so recent that the water hadn’t been allowed to stand and so stink up the bedding.
The joys of camping.
using our time wisely
While at home for the rest of the month until the stay-at-home was lifted, we—like everyone else—had to learn how to use our time wisely so the days weren’t just like groundhog day.
Spices have been a challenge on the trips because I’ve been moving them between home and the RV. Barney found these small glass jars with spice names that can be attached. I even found a small salt shaker at the grocery store that’s the same height as the jars.
During these “down” times, I’ve been going to SportsCare Physical Therapy to get help with my neck issues from so much time on the computer during my working days. This has been a great place for me to come to once or twice a week.
flyover
Many large cities have been enjoying the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds flyovers as the military says thank you to those whose who have been working with those fighting Covid-19. Atlanta was one of the first cities to get both.
We had planned to go to the top level of the North Springs Marta parking structure for a good view, but the traffic slowed us down so much that we parked along the side of the road with many others.
We heard them way before we saw them in the sky. Luckily I could crop one of my pictures so we could see them.
Saturday pancakes, continued
In the previous post I showed you pictures of the different attempts at pancakes on Saturday mornings. I just had to have something different for breakfast once a week! Here are our last two Saturdays with different pancakes.
We enjoyed both of these pancakes on our patio because of the heater that keeps us warm and toasty on chilly mornings.
The first time I posted our attempt at pancakes on FaceBook, many friends recommended the mix Birch Benders. Eventually I found some at our local Publix grocery store.
Ever heard of birch bending? We hadn’t so looked it up online. The creator of the mix did it as a kid (and still does it as a man) so named his pancake mixes after this activity. I think our grandkids would love trying it.
We’re starting to get ready to take out our RV. The state parks in Georgia have been open all along, so we’ve decided to stay at different parks in the state for a few months. Stay tuned!
