Between trips we enjoy some in-between times at home. After Mississippi, we spent a day at the Atlanta History Center and were immersed in the Civil War—one of the most significant events in the city’s history—and the 1996 Olympics. Then we went to Raleigh to visit a long-time friend and spent a day walking around the grounds of the largest plantation in N.C., seeing the 1800s through the eyes of those who toiled there.
