We’re on the road home. Sounds both exciting and sad, even as I write this post. The drive from Westcliffe through Colorado and into New Mexico was beautiful. While we had to start driving on some 4-lane roads, when going home, faster is better.
We stopped for gas here, and I had a fun conversation with the young man working there. I told him I was from Des Moines, paused, and then added Iowa. He said he knew everyone in town and didn’t recognize me so was glad I clarified my hometown location!
Did you notice that the Village Limits sign has elevation instead of population? We noticed that difference while we were in mountainous states, but once we got back to central time zone, we had population numbers. Anyone else ever notice that?

We walked to the diner that night for dinner, and I had the best pork chops ever there. The 2 pork chops were huge and meaty, the seasoning was delicious, and they were grilled perfectly. The diner’s specialty is grain-fed beef, home-raised, only a mile away from the restaurant. I was going to take a picture of them, but I was really hungry.
The downside of this stop was discovering an oil leak underneath the truck. Oh no. After determining that the leak was fairly minor and drips weren’t obvious the next morning, we talked with our mechanic at home and decided to keep driving, checking the oil every hour or so. The oil did go all over the RV as we drove and coated the underside of the truck, so cleanup was going to happen as soon as we got home.
