While we planned on getting back on the road in March after a re-do on my cataract lenses and physical therapy on my shoulder, life got in the way. Our first interruption was emergency surgery early in March for a perforated appendix and an 8-day stay in the hospital.
With little energy but a desire to look my best, Barney figured out how to set up a make-up “table” at home where I could sit down to blow dry my hair and put on my make-up.
Then 2-1/2 weeks later in early April, I went back to the hospital for 4 days with a partial small bowel obstruction caused by scar tissue from the surgery. The first 48 hours meant not eating or drinking anything so my tummy could calm down.
One of the highlights was learning about “shampoo caps,” like shower caps, so I could at least have clean hair.
Between the hospital stays, our California family moved to Georgia and are now living about 30 minutes away. Their move for us was the rose between the thorns.
These hospital stays put off my physical therapy, resulting in a longer recovery time for mobility in my fractured shoulder. We’re finally starting to look forward to short trips closer to summer. Barney started a volunteer job at a city-owned golf course; his “pay” is a free round of golf and a discounted fee for someone playing with him. Needless to say, he’s enjoying his time outside on the golf course.
