While my main reason to visit Wilmington was to see the battleship, we decided to spend more time here to relax some, to get caught up on our posts, and do laundry. Originally we planned on staying at a military campground, we were hesitant because of a coastal flood warning for that area (we’ll show you that area in a future post). So we came to this KOA campground about 20 minutes from almost everywhere we wanted to go. Here’s where we stayed for 6 days.
KOA entrance
Our campsite was sandy.
Close to us was a couple of tent areas.
Some of the expensive campsites had a solid foundation, a stone furnace for fires, and a table with an awning. These sites were full over the weekend.
Around the campground are small cabins like this one that can be rented.
The “three bears” cabins (our term) since they were of different sizes: papa bear, mamma bear, and baby bear.
playground for kids (well used over the weekend)
more areas for play
Even the parents have places to go.
Wishing well? No, a place to pan for gems and fossils.
instructions for panning (been there, done that)
even a permanent corn hole game setup
Dad and son playing chess; the son was winning.
Within walking distance was this cafe/coffee shop. Shorts you say? Yes, it was a warm, rainy day.
We would have loved to have brunch on the patio, but it was too wet.
Outside of our campground is this car wash that has high enough bays for RVs and big rigs. Now we have a clean truck.
The local Starbucks was snuck in between 2 businesses, so it is skinny.

So what’s happening with our ant problem?
We tried spray, bait traps, and smashing them. Some improvement, but not much. We cleaned every flat surface we could find, and Barney opened up every part of the RV he could try to find where the ants had their nest. Finally he found the nest inside the side of the RV.
Then we found some Terro liquid ant killer stored in our RV from a trip a few years ago and put it out. Magic!
Ants came running and left dying. We’ll keep the liquid out for a couple of weeks so the whole nest is clear out. Can’t wait for the ants to stop visiting.
Next is a visit to the historic part of Wilmington.
