Our final at-home stay before taking off on a 2-month trip was filled with doctor appointments, getting ready for the next trip, a birthday, afternoon entertainment as trees were removed, a watch party, time with friends, and an outing that we’ll show you in the next 4 posts.
getting ready for next trip
Getting ready for a trip means maintenance on the truck and the RV. For quite a while now, the portable generator has been leaking oil in the truck bed. Barney’s tried to troubleshoot it, and this time he decided to take it completely apart. He and Jason spent hours working on it on our driveway.
The testing showed more oil leaking and a part burned out. We went ahead and bought another rebuilt generator that could be delivered before we plan on taking off on our next trip. The manufacturer knew exactly what the problem was and has parts for fixing it that he can send. Looks like we’ll have a generator for sale when we get back after Barney makes the changes.
His next project was to repack the wheel bearings. Barney takes such good care of our rig, especially with Jason’s help!
The goal was to wash and wax the truck and RV for our next trip, but rain every day nixed that idea. Instead Barney vacuumed the truck’s interior and washed the inside of the windows. Now the truck is welcoming me to sit inside as we hit the road.
summer b’day
While home, we got to celebrate another one of my birthdays. We started out for breakfast at our local J. Christopher’s.
watch party
Our home church, North Point Community Church, is one of those mega churches you hear about, but the leadership works hard to make it feel like it’s a smaller church. Plans for the end of summer and fall are for nights of worship on the church grounds and Sunday morning watch parties for those of us who are on the serving teams (we greet visitors at the early service every 3 weeks). Since we’re going to be gone the rest of the fall, we got the okay to join one of the parking teams to watch the service together.
Because of online streaming, we got to listen to Sunday’s Night of Worship in the comfort of our home—but it would have been nice to have been with others.
friends
Alpharetta (where we live) has been a pretty quiet place for Covid-19 outbreaks, so folks are venturing out for meals together.
Much of our human interaction during Covid, besides our Covid family, is with Tom and Sintya and their daughter Liliana. We store our RV on their property so get to see them often while we’re home. Also, Sintya works at our church, NPCC, so she helps us feel like we’re really connected even though we’re out of town most of the time.
As we’re getting ready for the road again, we decided to take a 3.5 hour drive to Ashville, NC, to tour the Biltmore House and see the Downton Abbey exhibit. Ready to tour with us?
