After enjoying the Green Gables area of Prince Edward Island (PEI), we weren’t quite ready to end the day, so we decided to enjoy one of the Island’s treats—a lobster supper. For a long time these dinners were held at local churches on Sunday nights for the community, but then more and more people (tourists) came to PEI, and the pressure on the churches was too much.
Last year on our northern midwest trip, we went to a fish boil in Door County, Wisconsin, and loved the experience. For the fish boil, however, the highlight was getting to see the dinner cooked outdoors in a large pot. We didn’t get to see the food cooked here, but it was good!
When we arrived, the restaurant had just opened, and we were the first ones for dinner. Hope it fills up!
If you’ve ever wanted to know how to eat a fresh lobster, our place mats tell you how. Luckily I took a picture of it before starting to eat because it was a mess when I finished!
After some delicious tomato basil soup and lovely rolls, they brought us a bucket of steamed mussels. Haven’t had these in years.
When we finished this course, only a few mussels were left – the empty shells almost filled up another bucket.
The restaurant is filling up. So glad for them since it’s the middle of the week.
dinners
And then dessert. Barney had chocolate cake (average), and I had the best blueberry pie ever!
Skiing on PEI? The only place to ski on the Island is at Mark Arendz Provincial Ski Park just south of where we are. It was renamed for Arendz because of his success in the Paralympic Winter Games in China.
During the winter, the park provides hills for cross-country and alpine skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing. During the summer, the park offers mountain biking, hiking trails, and a summer biathlon program. We didn’t get to see this park, but it sounds like a great place for the residents and tourists who want this adventure.
history
As we were leaving, we saw the restaurant’s history on the wall. This just covers the highlights of a restaurant that started out as an idea for a fundraiser. If you like more details, you can read about them at the end of this post.
drive home
On our drive home, we saw these lovely sights as the sun was starting to set.
These small, community churches are everywhere on the Island
I love seeing these fields since I always saw them as we traveled in Iowa when I was a child. Tomorrow it’s suppose to rain, so we have an indoor outing planned for you.
history details
I enjoy learning more about a place’s history. You too? If so, here’s our information from the inside of the menu. Thank goodness for junior farmers (our 4H?).
