Our challenge these days is to find a campground that’s still open since it’s the middle of October. Our campground in Cape Breton was closing the day we left, and our new campground north of Sydney about 30 miles will close the 1st weekend in November. So we’re good for a week of exploring Halifax and the middle third of Nova Scotia.
To leave Cape Breton Island for Nova Scotia, we got to cross the Cabot Strait channel.
Here’s another picture road sign. We think the bottom row (left to right) is produce stand, greenhouse, and historical museum.
We made it! We’re northwest of Sydney.
The campground’s office—doesn’t it look inviting?
Pool is off to the right.
Residents can rent canoes and big wheels for kids, firewood is available, and laundry room looks good.
Fun play area for kids.
After a night of rain, we had puddles all around our campsite. The WiFi is great here (until Saturday night when the campground was full and everyone was online) so I get to catch up on blog posts.
Across the road from us is a small pond with frogs and small fish for catch and release. These 2 ducks came looking for food.
Canada celebrated its Thanksgiving while we were here, so we had slices of turkey with cranberry relish, mashed sweet potatoes, and corn. Yum. We tried to get a pumpkin pie for dessert, but couldn’t find one anywhere and Starbucks was sold out of their slices of pumpkin loaf. Glad we get to have another Thanksgiving in a month!
We had just been talking about not seeing a FedEx or UPS truck while we’ve been in Canada. At least we got to see a DHL truck when we were in Halifax.
We’re off to our first museum tomorrow. The cruise ships are still coming into the port, so we know museums will still be open.
