We signed up for a guided tour of the maintenance building and are so glad we did. While waiting for our tour guide, we saw the train come in from its last trip with folks like us. We’ll be taking our train ride next.
One of the facts we learned was about the time it took to get a steam engine ready to start moving. In warm weather, it took about 3 – 4 hours; in winter it took about 5 – 6 hours to warm up the engine to produce steam (not too fast). And I think having to wait a few minutes for our truck’s diesel engine to warm up and cool down is a bother!
Now on to the train ride and a view of Kennecott Mine.
