Such fun to add Louisiana to our map this afternoon! We’ll have to find a time to hang out in Mississippi so we can fill in that state.
But first we had to say good-bye to Alabama and our great campsite.
As we were leaving, our campsite hosts recommended we stop at Buc-ee’s for gas. What an experience. This location is the chain’s eastern location, and most of the other gas stations are in Texas; and yes, everything is bigger in Texas.
As we left Alabama, listening to a new book from the library, we drove 75 miles through Mississippi. Here’s our proof that we were in this state.
Hello Louisiana!
Mid-afternoon we made it to Morgan City, Louisiana, the heart of Cajun country. We’re staying at a city park with RV sites, Land End Park. The city (2 exits from the highway) is on the banks of the Atchafalaya River (not sure how to pronounce it yet), and we’re right on the edge of Lake Palourde. We got a great deal to stay here for a week with full hook-ups.
Tomorrow we’ll go to the visitors center and start planning out our days here in Morgan City, in Baton Rouge, and in New Orleans. A laundry room is available in the park, so we can get some clean clothes, and then we’ll also get some cooking done. A woman in the office said the city is hosting a fundraiser on Saturday featuring live music and jambalaya, yum.
