Barney and I both have had to see a Resurgence hand specialist, Dr. Mowbray, and last time we saw him before our trip, he told us about a town he goes to for fly fishing each year—Westcliffe—and that the best breakfast in town was at the bowling alley. So of course we had to see what he was talking about, and we are so glad we did!
Westcliffe is west of Pueblo, Colorado, so we got to enjoy the cool, crisp air of the southern Rockies. We got settled into our campsite at Grape Creek RV Park a couple of miles outside of town.
Just as the sun was setting, we had this beautiful view of the skies over our campground. Both afternoons we had a rainstorm, and I remember these storms from tenting vacations with my family in northern national parks. Glad Barney and I can be dry and warm inside our RV!
This is the view from the campground with horses by the creek.
Not the best we’ve ever had, but it was the largest and for less than $10, including the iced tea. And they had good WiFi!
But the best part of going to the bowling alley was the view.
We spent more time in town the day we left and thought we’d include these pictures in this post.

farmers market
Our morning to walk around town was highlighted by a weekly farmers market featuring produce and products.
We kept seeing signs for Elk Crossing as we drove through Colorado, and we finally saw one!
advice
We popped into the White Bird Emporium as we were walking around for an early birthday ice cream treat. They had these bookmarks with advice from nature that we really enjoyed reading through.
And then this advice from a reindeer.
What advice have you learned from nature?
Then we took a drive up into the mountains to look for an area where our hand doctor could go to for fly fishing and found this long, straight road leading up to the mountains.
In the next post, we’ll look at history of this beautiful area.
