We’re off on a blitz across the U.S. to return Matt’s family’s motor home to them in California. They left it with us in Georgia after the family’s Thanksgiving visit to celebrate Barney’s retirement and then flew home. We’re meeting them in Las Vegas for Montana’s soccer tournament and then driving on to Truckee for a visit. I had some hand surgery a week before we left so was able to let the hand heal as Barney drove.
We spent our first night in Vicksburg, Mississippi, at the Ameristar RV Park and saw this beautiful sunset over the very full Mississippi River. The air was warm and “soft,” reminding us of summer evenings in the South. The downside to this overnight stop is that we both got ticks when we walked from the RV park to the casino to look around. Barney saw mine right away in my hair line, but we didn’t see one on his leg until he started wearing shorts in Texas. For joy.
The next night we slept in a Walmart parking lot in Abilene, Texas, along with the other trailers–our first time to boondock this way. The nice thing about driving a motor home is that we can get food easily, we can keep the temperature constant, and the bathroom is close by!
The third night we stayed in a KOA campground in Las Cruses, New Mexico. Saw lots of places along the way to come back to when we have more time.
We stayed in Phoenix for 2 nights with David and Sally, some long time friends. It was a good time to sleep in a regular bed, get some fixes done on the motor home, and find a chiropractor for Barney.
The drive from Phoenix to Las Vegas through the high desert vistas was beautiful, but such a rough road!
I looked forward to seeing Hoover dam for the first time but only got to see the high bridge wall. Oh well. On to Las Vegas.
