You probably know I’m a reader. In the last couple of years I’ve read mystery series that happen on Mackinac Island and in the Copper Harbor area, which is the most northern tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula. These two sets of books have given me a mental picture of what I want to see, and I’m so glad for them and how they got me ready for this trip!
We’re spending the next week on the Keweenaw Peninsula so decided to start off with a local breakfast at Suomi in Houghton. The mystery I’m currently rereading that takes place in this area has this restaurant prominently mentioned in it.
The breakfast I ordered was highlighted in the book, so of course I had to have the pannukakka—a Finnish pancake with a custard topping along with warm raspberry sauce.
Delicious, but not like the pumpkin pancakes at J. Christopher’s at home! Hope they’ll still have them in November when we get home.
We’re not the only ones who liked this restaurant!
During summers while in college, I worked at a family resort in northeast Minnesota, and our head cook was a short Finnish woman who ran the kitchen like a drill sergeant, but boy was her food good. Today’s breakfast took me back a lot of years.
