With a rainy day, we stayed in Grand Marais to explore the town’s 4 museums, but only 2 were open—and they were only open in the afternoon. Since the main street is only a few blocks long, the museums were close together.
The agate shop was really informative since agates are such a big deal along the coast.
It also had a two-room history museum highlighting the ups and downs for commercial fishing and logging in the area since the mid-1800s. Notice the cross-country skis close to the ceiling. They were 10-feet long!
The old post office had even more history of the area. Found out that the logs that used the logging chute I mentioned earlier floated east a little way to the mills here in Grand Marais.
