When we got back from our two-month trip to the northern Midwest, we played around with the idea of selling our house and moving into a rental so we wouldn’t have to worry about upkeep while we traveled. After looking at apartments and running the numbers–a third time, we decided to stay where we were, especially since Jason and Bob are living with us in the house and can keep an eye on it.
The next step was to have a home inspection done so the house would be in the best shape possible while we were traveling. He gave us a long list of what we needed to do! Here are some of the larger projects we tackled:
insulation
Today Barney and I are getting our Christmas gift to each other: new insulation in the attic. Can’t wait for those heating bills to go down!
driveway repair
We started noticing a depression in the driveway getting worse and worse and decided we needed to get it repaired. Luckily, the problem was only thin cement from when it was poured 25 years ago rather than the dirt under it giving away.
window repairs
We also decided to get this window and another one repaired after our inspector helped us realize how bad the problem really was. Boy are large windows expensive!
