Estes Park, Colorado
Just spent a couple of days outside of Estes Park, Colorado, with David and Sally. Sally’s and my parents lived across the street from each other in Des Moines. The night we arrived, Randy and Karen were staying with them too in another cabin. Randy’s father helped build Sally’s and my parents’ homes and then his family lived in Sally’s house after her parents moved to Colorado (I was in high school then). Small world for us all to meet this close to this entrance of Rocky Mountain Natl. Park!
Just outside their front door, we kept seeing numerous deer (a total of 3 bucks, 4 does, and 5 fawns), up to 13 wild turkeys at a time, and hummingbirds galore. The view from their porch was spectacular, and the time with David and Sally was so relaxing and refreshing.
While staying with friends at Estes Park, David took us on a stroll around Lilly Lake. The view was breathtaking.
If you’ve never driven along The Big Thompson River to get to Estes Park, you have a real treat waiting for you!
The drive across the United States was amazing. About every 15 minutes the landscape changes–from mountain ranges to the green of crops growing in Nebraska and Iowa. We wish the pictures we took could capture the beauty, but you’ll just have to drive highway 80 on your own if you haven’t already done so.
